1. Medicine and Dentistry

With an average lifetime salary of over £40,000 a year, seeing Medicine (and dentistry) at the top of the highest paid degree subjects is no shock to any one really. Of course, getting on a medicine course is difficult and the seven year regime is to qualify as a doctor is arguably the hardest degree available.

2. Architecture

A perhaps surprising entry at Number 2 here with architecture, building and planning bringing in an average of £39,000 a year for those qualified. However, like with doctors, it takes time with a seven year course to qualify as a fully-fledged architect.

3. Engineering

Earning ever so slightly less at Number 3 is Engineering in general. This high paid subject area has a huge wide scope, from microscopic nanotechnology, to electrical engineering to civil construction.

4. South Asian studies

It may sound like a weak or nonsense subject, but those who have qualified with a degree in South Asian studies have gone on to earn an average of £38,000 a year over their life times. With the explosion of the South Asian economies, this highly paid subject is sure to be sought after by employers in certain markets.

5. Minerals technology

A rather niche degree area, minerals technology graduates could see an average salary of around £37,000 in their life time, only £3,000 less than a medicine grad. Those who go on to become experts in this field can expect to really cash in, with expert positions making in excess of £50,000 a year.
